Alternative Refrigerant Correction Factors Present R12 and R502 expansion valves can be used with HCFC interim blends as well as HFC replacement refrigerants. The following chart shows the additional valve capacity available when using the new refrigerants in traditional expansion valves. In some instances,
valve capacity increases dramatically when using a new refrigerant. Exercise caution when selecting a valve; over-sizing can lead to poor superheat control. Note: It is very important that superheat be checked and adjusted accordingly.
